On Sunday, December 29, 2013, at approximately 4:30am, officers from
the Eden Police Department responded to Baymont Inn Hotel located at 716 Linden
Drive in reference to a possible assault and kidnapping. Officers began the investigation and
conducted interviews at the scene and found that Derick Hairston had assaulted
his ex-girlfriend, Marquise Hairston and drug her to a waiting vehicle behind
the Baymont Inn in the Walmart parking lot forced her into the vehicle and sped
away. Investigators were called to the
scene and started conducting follow up interviews and were able to determine
that the victim and Derek Hairston went to 844 Holland Street in Eden. Officers
began to conduct surveillance on the residence of 844 Holland Street at that
time. At approximately 10:15am
Investigators were able to confirm that Marquise Hairston was inside the
residence with Derek Hairston. The Eden Police Department Special Response Team
was activated and responded to the scene as well. Negotiations with the suspect
began at that time.
At approximately 10:50am the victim Marquise Hairston exited the
residence and was transported to Morehead Memorial Hospital for
evaluation. Negotiations continued with
Hairston and at approximately 11:15am Derek Hairston exited the residence and
was taken into custody without incident.
Derek Hairston has
been charged with the following
One (1) count of First
Degree Kidnapping (for the incident this morning)
One (1) count of Domestic
Assault (for the incident this morning)
Also, as part of the investigation, Hairston had two (2) outstanding
warrants for Felony Probation Violation and one (1) outstanding Order
for Arrest (Grand Jury Indictments) for PWISD Schedule II Controlled
Substance and Sell and Delivery
of Schedule II Controlled Substance.
Derek Hairston was transported to the Wentworth Magistrates Office and
placed into the Rockingham County Jail and is scheduled to appear in Wentworth
District Court on January 14, 2013.
Hairston was placed under a $100,000 secured bond for the Felony
Probation Violations and PWISD and Sell and Delivery of Schedule II Controlled
Substance and No Bond for First Degree Kidnapping and Domestic Assault.
