UPDATE—Arrest in Attempted Armed Robbery at Petty’s Mini Mart

On Tuesday, August 20, 2013, investigators with the Eden Police Department were able to identify the suspect in the Attempted Armed Robbery of Petty’s Mini Mart on Saturday August 17, 2013.

Investigators were able to identify Jeffery Lynn Corum (52) of Eden as the suspect and were able to obtain a warrant for arrest on Corum for Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.  Corum was identified through leads generated by the media outlets, posting the photos from the attempted robbery and the citizens utilizing Crimestoppers of Rockingham County.

Investigators attempted to serve the outstanding warrant on Corum at his residence on Highway 87 in Eden.  During the attempt to serve the outstanding warrant, Corum fled the residence and into a nearby wooded area.

Deputies with Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office and Troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol assisted in the search for Corum in the area of Nance Street, Bryant Street and Highway 87.  Approximately one hour later deputies, troopers and Eden officers located Corum on Kingston Road just outside the city limits of Eden at which time he was taken into custody.

At this time we do not have bond information but Corum will be scheduled to appear in Wentworth District Court on September 10, 2013.
