On Tuesday June 11, 2013, the Eden Police Department responded to a call of a subject laying on the side of the roadway at the intersection of Church Street and Park Road. Officers arrived and spoke with Larry William Overby of Davis Street, Eden, North Carolina.  Overby advised officer that he had been assaulted by Alton Pyron Jr.  Rockingham County EMS responded to the scene and transported Overby to Morehead Memorial Hospital. Overby was later transferred to Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem where his condition deteriorated. On June 17, 2013, Larry William Overby died as a result of complications from the assault that occurred on June 11, 2013 with Alton Pyron Jr. 

On June 18, 2013, investigators with the Eden Police Department charged and arrested Alton Ray Pyron Jr. of Delaware Ave. in Eden with Voluntary Manslaughter in the death of Larry Overby.

Alton Ray Pyron Jr. was charged with Voluntary Manslaughter and transported to the Eden Magistrates Office where he received a $500,000 secured bond and transported to the Rockingham County Jail. Pyron Jr. is scheduled to appear in Wentworth District Court on July 9, 2013.
