Eden PD & NCSHP have friendly competition to raise money for the Salvation Army

On Monday, December 21, 2015, the Eden Police Department and the North Carolina Highway Patrol (Rockingham County) had a friendly competition to raise money for the Salvation Army by ringing the bell at the Eden Wal-Mart. The Eden Department was stationed at the Food entrance of Wal-Mart with one "red kettle' and the North Carolina Highway Patrol was stationed at the Retail entrance with one "red kettle".  A friendly competition with a common goal, raise money for the Salvation Army.  Members of each agency were stationed at each entrance from 10:00am until 5:00pm.

Salvation Army Captain Aaron Goldfard reported the totals on December 22, 2015.  The kettle for Eden Police Department totaled $875.80 and the kettle for North Carolina Highway Patrol totaled $842.16.  This is more than twice the amount typically collected during the day at Wal-Mart.  What started as a friendly competition, was actually two agencies working together for a common goal, to raise as much money as they could for the Salvation Army.

Chief Pyrtle stated "Many thanks to all that helped raise the money for such a great cause.  I would like to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year."
